Using Counselling Skills With Young People

25th July 2012

"A teacher's responsibility to his pupil is greater than the training of the mind through the classics" (T. Arnold & E. Thring, 18th Century)

Current government initiatives are once again endeavouring to prioritise the issue of young peoples' mental wellbeing in the education sector. This course shows how to apply counselling skills to support and engage young people experiencing mental health related issues and provides an opportunity for delegates to practice acquired counselling skills in a supportive, interactive environment.

You will:

  • Establish an understanding of the difference between counselling and counselling skills.
  • Learn about the core conditions.
  • Develop skills in active listening, reflecting, paraphrasing & summarising.
  • Increase your awareness of the importance of non-verbal communication.

A short course is unavailable for this subject.
